1964 John Deere 110 & Johnson Loader
This is a 1964 John Deere 110 garden tractor, serial number 4893 with the original Kohler K181S engine. Also included in this sale is a rare Johnson Model 10 loader. This tractor is just about as perfect as you can get. I can't take the credit, this tractor & loader combination was completely restored top to bottom by Ron Jungmeyer Restorations. For those of you that know Ron, no explanation necessary, for those of you that don't know Ron, he is from near Jefferson City, MO and he is absolutely one of the best, if not the best in the business of restoring tractors. Some of you might know Ron by some of his articles in Two Cylinder magazine. When Ron restores a tractor, he starts from scratch and leaves nothing go. Every nut & bolt was removed from this tractor and everything with no exceptions was completely redone. That includes the engine, rear end, & everything in between. When I took this tractor & loader to him, I let him have free reign to do whatever it took to make it absolutely perfect. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, but have other projects I wish to do and not enough time to enjoy it all.
The engine. Kohler K181S, ser # B-062282, spec # 30198D. Completely taken apart, degreased, head was milled, crankshaft was ground, new valve guides, intake valve, connecting rod, piston, complete gasket set, block was honed, new governor gear installed, and all the smaller parts like new condensor, points, coil, plug & wire, etc. Carburetor was completely rebuilt. This tractor has never failed to start immediately and always runs beautiful.
Electrical: This has all new wiring, new battery cables & light switch, It will have a new battery when sold. The starter/generator was gone through professionally and rebuilt. New generator belt, new solonoid and new voltage regulator. The one thing this should have that I always meant to find but never did was a NOS wiring harness for the lights.
The tractor new parts include all new bearings, bushings, seals & gaskets. New belts, correct rubber grips and knobs, decals, seat cover, footrest pads, muffler, new steering bushing & steering wheel cap. New rear tires & tubes, traction tread 23X8:50-12's. New front tires are turf 4:80-4:00-8. The tractor has excellent tags all the way around from the serial tag to the engine & generator tag, all very nice. The paint on the tractor was taken down to bare metal and top quality base and topcoats applied. No photo's will do it justice, it's absolutely beautiful. The engine compartment was all finished just as nice as the top of the tractor. If you look at the engine shields etc they have been restored every bit as nice as the hood. The steering wheel wasn't just cleaned up or recovered, it was smoothed to a mirror finish and has a few coats of gloss black paint applied, so even the steering wheel shines like all get out. The hood hinge pins have been rechromed. An elbow was put on the muffler to direct the exhaust down instead of onto the loader. Every nut & bolt, spring and clips & pins on the tractor & loader were removed, sandblasted, and a new zinc coating with clear finish was applied. Steering and front end was also gone through completely. The metal on the tractor was very nice to start with, but if we ran into something that wasn't perfect, I went out and found a part to replace it that was. Nothing was let go and it shows in the restoration.
The extra's include the 4" narrow front rims. Complete & original front & rear light set on this tractor. Also a rare set of one hole wheel weights on the rear rims. The 1964 Model has the three speed transmission which sets it apart from all other models except the 1963 JD 110.
The loader. Rare and hard to find Johnson Model 10. This has the hydraulic dump option on the front bucket. The front bucket is the narrow "tined" multipurpose bucket. I have been lucky enough through the years to find several of these loaders, and I saved the very best for this tractor. All cylinders are absolutely perfect, all have been repacked, the loader works flawlessly, all lines and hydraulic resevoir were meticulously cleaned out before painting & refilling with fresh oil. The pump & valve assembly were rebuilt and brand new hoses were installed all the way around. The paint on the loader was meant to match the tractor itself in that where the welds were left alone, the rest of the loader was "smoothed" to give it a high quality smooth finish just like the rest of the tractor. All old finish was removed to bare metal before new was applied. New decals were applied that matched the old decal’s exactly. The loader works excellent and functions great, although I have not worked it hard, I'm sure it's ready if that's what you're after. This tractor/loader was not rebuilt simply “painted” for show purposes, this was rebuilt from top to bottom so if you wanted to put it to work, it’s ready!
The bad. Not much! I just haven't had a chance to use this much at all lately. The throttle cable is sticking a little bit, I am oiling that every time I drive the tractor and it is almost back to normal. That is very minor and there is no need to change this cable, just needs to be used more often. That's part of the reason I decided to sell it. Something like this should be used and enjoyed and I don't see myself having the time to enjoy it the next couple years. Also, the paint has a couple very, very minor scuffs here and there. Hardly noticeable but I want to mention them. Two places I can think of are a small area on the edges of one of the wheel weights, and also just a bit on the bottom side of the lower arm on the loader. These are not worth mentioning at all but I don't want any surprises. If you saw the tractor you would wonder why I even bring them up.
Lastly, when Ron restored this for me, I was running my own concrete business. Working 80 plus hours a week never allowed a lot of extra time for restoring tractors, which is why I asked Ron to do this tractor. He has done other tractors for me and his attention to detail is simply amazing. I have another tractor he restored several years before this one, and it has never leaked a drop of oil or gas and starts 100% of the time without fail. I believe around 400 hours were put into this tractor & loader. I have the receipts here somewhere, & If I can find them, I’ll gladly show you those receipts so you know everything has been done that I have mentioned. If you truly are looking for an absolutely beautiful old style pan seat John Deere 110 with a very unique implement like the Johnson Loader, this is the perfect tractor for you. I have no doubt whatsoever this restoration will last for many, many more years if taken care of. Ron Jungmeyer usually has a 1-2 year or more waiting period when you want him to restore a tractor, so that should tell you all you need to know about his quality. When you go to a Two Cylinder EXPO, many of those restorations are Ron’s. He is extremely good at what he does and pays alot of attention to not just the big, but the smaller details. If anyone has any questions pertaining to this tractor, you can reach me at mjaxn82361@aol.com. $6200. Photo links below, or come take a look in person. This tractor is 100% EXPO quality.
For Sale Or Trade I mentioned this was for sale Or Trade. Honestly, I’d rather work out a trade. I love old original condition Ford Model A’s. If you have either a 1930 or 1931 Ford Model A Coupe, Tudor Sedan, or closed cab pickup that is in decent original condition, I’m interested! I’d also be interested in a 1955-57 Chevy pickup, preferably a 55’ 3100 series shortbox. Also be interested in a 1956 Ford shortbox Pickup, or mid 1930’s pedal cars. Of course I’m always interested in other rare and unusual tractors, or take a look at my “currently looking for” link to see other items I’m interested in.
